Brayden has been pretty excited knowing that his birthday was coming. When we ask him how old he's turning he tells us, "I turn 5 and be bigger, bigger and go to school". It cracks us up how he wants to be big so quickly when not too many months ago we COULD NOT tell him he was a big boy. He wanted to be the baby FOREVER, but that has now changed.
So about a month ago I asked him what he wanted for his birthday cake. In our house the cake is the big deal for our kids. They can come up with whatever they want and I will try my hardest to make it for them and if I can't I will try my hardest to find someone who can. Now a month ago Brayden told me he wanted a car and truck cake. This would be typical for him since he loves cars and trucks and I thought it would be an easy cake to make. Well, just a couple weeks ago when Sean asked him what he wanted for his cake he said he wanted a Lego cake. When I said I thought he wanted a car and truck one he said no I want a Lego cake. Back to the drawing board for me. Sean saw the panic on my face at the thought of making a Lego cake and told me he would make it for me but I told him I was going to try.
So I Googled Lego cakes and found lots of photos, tutorials, and how-to videos and got a basic concept of what I was going to do. I was not going to use fondant since it is disgusting tasting so I knew it would look homemade but he would get his Lego cake. Since Lotus was on Spring break she stayed up with me and we made the Lego cake. We made 7 different Legos and she and I had SO much fun frosting and figuring this dang cake out. The best part was when I looked over at her and could tell that she had been sampling the frosting because her lips were all blue :)
When Brayden got up this morning and I said "Happy Birthday buddy" he looked at me and said "I want to see my Lego cake" (see I told you the cake was important). I took it out of the fridge and the boys thought it was really cool. Of course that made my day and onward we went getting ready for his party. Brayden got lots of new Lego's for his birthday and Hunter and him spent the rest of the day playing quietly together.
It was a great end to a crazy week and now as I type this I am taking lots of calm deep breaths because tomorrow is the beginning of another crazy busy week. Enjoy the pics!

Me and Lotus' finished masterpiece!

Brayden and Shaylee playing with the letters
Lotus being her cute self!
So much work to blow out those candles!
The best part of the cake for the kids were the frosted marshmallows that served as the tops to the Legos.
