Alderbrook Resort and Spa at Union, Wa

Last year for the 4th we all went to Grapeview and barbecued and then went down to the water and watched a magnificent fireworks show. This year Grapeview did not have enough funding to put it on and so it has been cancelled. We were really bummed and I had been trying to figure out how to incorporate a fire show into our barbecue on the 4th this year. The problem is that all the big shows are quite a far drive for us and the thought of being on the road with everyone that is either tired or drunk that late with the kids does not sound fun. Our friend sent us an email about Alderbrook Resort and Spa in Union, Wa that was having a fireworks show on Thursday night. I asked the kids if they would like to go and surprise, surprise we ended up going. We met our friends there with their kids and I couldn't believe the amount of people that showed up to the middle of nowhere. The resort is beautiful and the mountain views at sunset are breathtaking! They had a live band and lots of food and dancing. There were volleyball courts set up on the grass and a ton of people in their boats on the water patiently waiting for the show to start. The kids had captured some crabs earlier at our beach and brought them home. They traveled with us in the car to Alderbrook and the kids let them go out in Hood's Canal. They were chatterbugs all the way in the car about the crabs and jelly fish and it was a loud but happy drive. The fireworks started at about 10:30pm and the kids did great. Lotus sat with Rachel and watched, Hunter was bugging the older boys by not sitting still and Brayden sat still and watched and pointed to the colors that he was seeing. When it was over we stayed for a while to let most of the people leave and then we started our trip home. We got home and everyone in bed so that we could get up this morning to pick up Sean. I was thankful that we got to get a fireworks show in this week and tomorrow we will just barbecue and let off a couple things and call it a good day.
